Volunteer Opportunities
Join A THOUSAND SUMMERS as we deliver the camp experience that promotes self-confidence, leadership, and character. We have a team of over 100 volunteers across the country committed to serving youth through the power of camp. We are always looking for new volunteers! If you want to get involved, fill out an application above. We are currently recruiting volunteers for the upcoming season!
Volunteer Roles Include:
Campership Mentor – Campership Mentors are often teachers, coaches, or community leaders who already know the camper through a partner organization or school. Some mentors are assigned, but many have a pre-existing relationship with the camper. They provide support throughout the campership journey – from application to preparation and post-camp follow-up.
Camp Coach – Camp Coaches are assigned to a specific partner camp and are matched with campers attending that camp. They familiarize themselves with camp-specific details to offer tailored support. They support families in getting ready for camp by offering guidance, encouragement, and information.
Capstone Project Advisor – Capstone Project Advisors are paired with a high school-aged camper to support them as they design and complete a community-based Capstone service project. Advisors build a strong relationship with their camper, help plan the project, attend meetings, and support the camper’s final presentation.
Capstone Program Coordinator – Capstone Program Coordinators support and guide Capstone Project Advisors throughout the Capstone project process, fostering strong relationships, reminding them of upcoming deadlines, and helping troubleshoot any challenges to ensure successful project completion. We are not currently recruiting for Capstone Program Coordinators for 2025-2026.
Campership Application Review Team – Campership Application Review Team members review and score campership applications each fall to help determine which applicants will receive financial support to attend camp the following summer. Our Campership Application Review Team is full for 2025-2026.
Trustee of the Board – Trustees serve as dedicated ambassadors and strategic leaders of A Thousand Summers, helping to guide the organization’s mission, vision, and long-term sustainability. Board members provide governance, support fundraising efforts, and offer expertise to strengthen our impact on campers and families nationwide. If you’re interested in applying to join the Board of Trustees, please do not submit a general volunteer application. Instead, email us directly at gro.sremmusdnasuohtanull@ofni. We’ll follow up to let you know about current openings and next steps.
